Statement And Photograph Of Jai Moksha From His Father And Family

“The Patel family would like to provide a short statement regarding the tragic death of our beloved Jai.

“Jai was a very kind, considerate and polite young boy aged four and a half who just wanted to be loved. He was a child who would share all his toys and sweets, even if it meant that he had none for himself. He thoroughly loved playing with his brother and sister and proudly painted pictures for his dad whom he loved immensely.

“Jai loved the zoo and was intrigued by all the different animals and their movements. Jai was quietly spoken but had an infectious smile which would brighten up your day. Jai was respectful to all his elders and enjoyed speaking about subjects beyond his years; Jai thoroughly enjoyed his times in both Nursery and Primary School and had many friends whom he enjoyed spending time with. Jai had aspirations to become a doctor and he would say “when I am bigger I am going to be a doctor so I can make you better”. Jai was a model child who tragically lost his life to a mindless act.

“The life of our beloved Jai has been lost at such a tender age. A tragedy, yes with many open questions. The family seek for the truth for Jai and we will work with all agencies and wait patiently for answers to ensure that no stone is left unturned to find the truth, so that we can come to terms with the sequence of events which have led to our tragic loss.

“The family would like to thank the respective Emergency Services and DCI Andy O’Connor and his investigation team for the professional manner in relation to the incident which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 8th May 2014 and their communication and support provided to the family since that juncture.

“We would like the press to respect the families’ wishes to allow the family to grieve in silence and allow us to mourn the death of our beloved Jai.”

A taxi driver was assaulted during a robbery in Middleton.

At about 12.30am on 11 May 2014, the 60-year-old driver collected a man from Bowness Road, Middleton and took him to Baguley Crescent.

Once there, the passenger demanded the driver’s car keys and cash.

He then snatched the keys from the ignition and began assaulting him.

The victim handed over some cash to the offender, who then got out of the car and kicked it.

Local residents, who had heard the commotion, came to the victim’s aid and the offender ran off with some cash. He dropped the keys to the car at the scene.

He is described as white, about 5ft 10in tall and between 18 and 25 years old. He had short fair/blonde hair, was of slim build and wearing a parka style jacket.

Detective Constable Claire Ramsden, said: “This was a wholly unacceptable attack on a man in his 60s who was simply trying to do his job.

“By coming to the driver’s assistance, local residents have proven that they will not tolerate mindless thugs, like the man responsible for this robbery, operating in their neighbourhoods.

Young people from four schools across Merseyside will take to the pitch at Goodison Park tomorrow, Tuesday, 13 May to take part in the final of the seven-a-side Matrix Serious & Organised Crime Challenge Shield football tournament 2014.
The tournament, which was launched in 2008, is part of an anti-gun crime initiative put together by the force’s specialist Matrix team.
It is supported by Liverpool and Everton FC, Merseyside County Schools FA, Liverpool Schools FA and Liverpool County FA and has already seen 34 mixed primary and secondary school teams battling it out on the pitch in a bid to become the winners of this prestigious trophy.
This year Kirkby High School and Calderstones School have made it through to the girls final and Calderstones School and Halewood Centre for Learning will go head to head in the boys final.  The primary school final will be played at a later date.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Ward, Matrix Serious & Organised Crime, said: “The tournament is now in its seventh year and is proving as popular as ever.  It forms part of a wider campaign about the consequences of getting involved in gun and gang crime which is making a real difference to the lives of young people on Merseyside.
“The Matrix Serious & Organised Crime team is committed to working closely with young people who live and go to school in areas that have been affected by the problems caused by guns and criminality.
“I believe sport, and football in particular, provides us with a common interest that we can take part in together with young people, their families and the local community.”
He continued: “I’d like to stress the vast majority of teenagers on Merseyside are keeping clear of guns and gang culture, but there will be some people who find themselves under pressure from so-called friends and acquaintances to get involved.
“The more people we can spread the word to, the more young people we can help to make a success of their lives and this scheme is helping us to do that.”

GMP and mental health professionals work together to provide support across the Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester Police is holding a series of events in support of Mental Health Awareness Week, which began today (Monday 12 May). Throughout the week the force is teaming up with mental health professionals across the region to raise awareness of mental health issues, and continue their work in supporting and safeguarding sufferers.

Commencing today with a launch event at GMP’s North Manchester Headquarters, the week of activity will raise awareness of mental health issues and how supporting agencies are working together to deliver more holistic and appropriate support for those in their care.

Throughout the week, representatives from Greater Manchester Police will be joined by the Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jim Battle, representatives from the Self Help Service, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust and other local agencies will be hosting coffee mornings and drop in sessions for the public, as well as training and networking opportunities for staff to get a greater understanding of the options open to them when they are working with vulnerable people.

Chief Inspector Patrick McKelvey from GMP said: “We are delighted to support the national campaign this week – it is a very important area and one which we are wholeheartedly committed to.

“Truth be told, every week is Mental Health Awareness Week for us as we have been working alongside experts in the field for some time to open up new pathways to the right care and support, as well as helping to remove the stigma attached to mental health problems.

“As well as gaining a greater understanding of the care pathways for people who come into our custody with mental health issues, we have designed a front line response by training response officers to be Crisis Intervention Officers.

“They will be the first responders to people suffering from mental health issues and in crisis. Through extra training and access to support services they will provide immediate care for individuals – this will help many people and provide them with care and not custody.”

Nicky Lidbetter, Chief Officer of Self Help Services, said: “As a key provider of mental health services in Manchester, we are delighted that GMP and other statutory organisations are coming together to support this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

“Mental health is and should be everyone’s issue, and in joining forces we are demonstrating our commitment to working in an integrated manner to deliver better and more responsive services for people experiencing mental health issues.”

Greater Manchester Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Jim Battle added: “Greater Manchester is making great strides in providing care for vulnerable people but there is still much more to do. As police, health care providers and members of the community, we all have to ensure that vulnerable individuals receive the appropriate support they require not just today but every day in the future.

“Mental Health Awareness Week presents an opportunity for a renewed commitment to working together, as we look at how to improve care for the most vulnerable members of our community.”

jail for man who raped 13yr old girl and asked a 7yr old to urinate on him

A man who made a seven-year-old girl urinate on him in order to re-enact scenes from a hardcore fetish movie has been jailed.

David Thompson, of Presto Gardens, Deane admitted 30 child sex offences, including six counts of raping a child under 13.

At Bolton Crown Court today, Tuesday 13 May 2014, he was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

The charges relate to the sexual abuse of two young girls: who were sexually abused over a period of about three years from the age of seven.

He started abusing one girl in about 2005 and the other a few years later.

One of the girls, who was repeatedly raped, was at times forced to watch a hardcore pornographic film called “Beyond Perversion”.

Thompson would then commit sex acts on her and make her urinate on him, depicting scenes from the film.

Thompson only admitted his guilt after forcing both young girls to give evidence at the trial.

After instructing his lawyers, he also forced one of the girls to endure an invasive medical examination after she had given evidence. The examination ultimately supported her claims.

Detective Constable Lee Gridley, said: “This is without a doubt one of the worst cases of child sexual abuse I have investigated.

“Thompson is a depraved individual with extreme pornographic fetishes who subjected two innocent and vulnerable young girls to appalling abuse.

“In the case of one of the girls he went so far as to make her re-enact scenes from a fetish movie and I cannot begin to contemplate the lasting physical and psychological impact this will most likely have on them both.

“They have shown great strength and courage in not only finding a voice to report the abuse, but, at such a young age, in being prepared to give evidence to ensure this dangerous individual has been brought to justice.

“This case shows that, sadly, unimaginable things do happen to the most vulnerable members of our community behind closed doors but that Greater Manchester Police can and will support victims of sexual abuse, regardless of when or where such abuse occurred, and do everything we can to identify and bring to justice dangerous individuals like Thompson.

“If you or someone you know is experiencing sexual abuse please do not suffer in silence. If you can confide in a friend, family member or the police you can be rest assured dedicated and specially trained officers are on hand to help and support you.”

Notes to editors: Thompson pleaded to:

6 x Rape child under 13
3 x Sexual assault child under 13 with penetration
12 x Sexual assault child under 13
6 x cause/incite a child to engage in sexual activity
3 x cause a child to watch a sexual act

Greater Manchester Police Welcome Changes To Dog Laws

Greater Manchester Police has welcomed changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 which gives them greater powers to tackle irresponsible dog owners.

New powers introduced today (Tuesday 13 March 2014) sees the legislation extended to include all private property. This means that for the first time dog owners will no longer be immune from prosecution if their dog attacks somebody in the home.

The maximum sentence for the owner of a dog who kills somebody has been raised from two years to 14 years. If a person is injured from a dog attack the owner faces up to five years imprisonment.

The change in legislation will also provide additional protection to people who visit homes offering essential services, including health visitors, postal staff and utility workers. The change in legislation does not protect trespassers.

Attacks on assistance dogs have also been recognised in the new legislation and will be subject to a maximum sentence of three years.

The changes to legislation have been introduced just over a year since the tragic death of Jade Lomas Anderson who died on 26 March 2013 after she was attacked by dogs in Atherton, Wigan.

Superintendent Mark Kenny from Greater Manchester Police said: “Sadly we have all seen the devastation caused by a dog attack and welcome the changes in legislation that will help police, local authorities and partner agencies improve public safety and responsible dog ownership.

“While the introduction of new powers can’t bring anybody back or take away injuries sustained we hope that today’s news brings some small comfort to those families that have had to deal with the heat-breaking consequences of a dog attack.

“We appreciate that the large majority of dog owners are responsible and look after their animals very well but for those that don’t, I hope the new powers and penalties will urge you to think very seriously about training and controlling your dogs.”

Ben Dolan, Strategic Director for Environment and Community Safety at Salford City Council, said: “These new laws are another weapon in the fight against irresponsible dog owners.

“We would also urge dog owners to be responsible, to get their pets micro chipped, and keep details up-to-date and not to allow them to roam the street.”

Ronnie Hill, aged 39, from Gateway Barrow, has been sentenced to two years in prison at Preston Crown Court for being concerned in the supply  of Class A controlled drugs.

Hill supplied the drugs, namely heroin, between 8th February 2014 and 8th April 2014 in Barrow In Furness.

During the intelligence-led investigation, officers searched buildings which Hill was known to use and a total of £8,000 worth of heroin was located.

Hill was arrested and admitted his involvement in conspiracy to supply heroin over a two month period. He was charged and sentenced for his crime.

Detective Constable Jamie Eaton said “This is yet another successful conviction of a Class A drug supplier. South Cumbria continues to be targeted by individuals from the North West region involved in the supply of Heroin.

“We continue to crack down on people travelling into South Cumbria to supply drugs. The usual methods used are to have drugs transported to the Furness area by Organised Crime Groups and have local dealers supply the drugs on the groups’ behalf. Monies which are the proceeds of these activities are transported back to individuals further up the supply chain.

“Those who are involved in this chain should be concerned, we will find out who is involved and bring you to justice.

“There is a vast amount of support available for people who are affected by drug misuse. Places to find help can be found at http://www.talktofrank.com/ or for local services in Cumbria http://www.gmw.nhs.uk/services.“

Police have released footage of the dramatic moment a man was stabbed in Salford on Wednesday 14 May 2014.

Shortly after 5.10pm, a 19-year-old man and his friend were outside Fitzwarren Court, off Rosehill Close, when a private hire taxi, a white Renault MPV, pulled up some distance away and seven men got out.

Footage now obtained by detectives shows the victim and his friend frantically trying to get buzzed into a nearby flat as they are being pursued by the group of men.

Before they could get into the complex, the main offender ran up to them. Anticipating violence one of the potential victims vaulted a fence and ran off and managed to escape.

The offender twice stabbed the victim before running off. At this point the gate was opened and the victim went inside and raised the alarm.

Six of the offenders then got back into the taxi, which was parked out of sight of the whole incident, and the vehicle drove off. One of them ran away towards Salford Precinct.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is now being treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital.

A 21 year old man and two boys aged 16 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and were released on bail pending further inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Jill Vescovi, based at Pendleton CID, said: “We now want everyone to look at this footage and, in particular, want information about the main offender.
